When you’re thinking about your career path, one of the things that you’re going to want to take a closer look at is jobs in real estate. Of course, when you’re listening to the messages that the media is sending about the real estate market and the mortgage crisis, chances are good that you’re not going to take jobs in real estate too seriously.

But just because the media is saying that real estate isn’t a great field for those looking into a new job doesn’t mean that everything that they have to say is true. You might find that there are some great opportunities for those looking for jobs in real estate investing. You might recognize pretty quickly that you’re able to take a closer look at the value of virtual assistants for real estate agents and think about a job as a real estate assistant or real estate virtual assistant; you may even look for a job in real estate marketing if you’re looking to specialize as agents and brokers are looking for more ways to set themselves apart.

In other words, even when the market isn’t at its best, there are jobs in real estate - and it’s possible to create you own success by looking into them.

Are more on the way?

At least 48,500 people have lost jobs in the mortgage business statewide since December 2005, when industry employment peaked at 152,700 positions, according to the state employment department’s figures.

People in the mortgage and banking industries are losing jobs left and right. There doesn’t seem to be any end in sight. You might call it a recession, or a pre-recession, but it doesn’t really matter when you are the one hit in the face with reality. With rising oil prices and real estate still on the slow down, there will likely be more real estate agents like George Colacicco looking for other work. But where?

The economy has been good. It tanked right after 2000 and it went further south after 2003 with the invasion of Iraq. It has been steadily getting worse. Does that mean we should be looking elsewhere for relief? Will the election in November change things if the Democrats win? These are questions on many people’s minds and the answers are not coming out any time soon.

But real estate agents and mortgage brokers are looking for answers nonetheless. What’s next?
